I Am Human

 I am no superhero 

Despite what you think

I may wear armor 

That is hard to puncture

I wear it well

Rarely take it off

It seems when I do

People are surprised 

That underneath 

I am just human

I am just like any other

Taking off the armor

Show vulnerability 

Maybe a little more

Somehow

I surprise the spectators 

Those who are watching

I watch their amazement 

Wonder why they are confused

For all they see

The resilience built within me

Even the battle wounds

Look at at those as trophies 

Of how far I come

Somehow

When I let my guard down

I take off my helmet 

Take my armor off

They are surprised

For I am human

Did they expect a superhero 

Maybe someone with magic

Someone with super strength 

Some days I believe I have

All of that being said

Please look past that

Realize I am a human

I am just like you

I bleed the same 

I am just a human after all
