Masks

What do you do when you are not okay

Everyone asks you how you are

Do you lie

Say you are fine

Put this mask on for people to see

While everything inside is screaming

That is what you always do

Fake a smile

Say you are fine

Go about your day

Yet the windows to your eyes are open

The curtains refuse to shut

The person you are

Is banging on the windows dying to get out

Yet, you look in the mirror and tell her to be quiet

For no one cares

You don’t want to be a downer

You keep the mask on longer

Trying to fight the world around you

Being mad at the wrong people

Emotions so raw you can see the pain running through

Some in how you need to figure out how to keep it in

Hold it together just a while longer

Remember the world isn’t about you

As the words echo from times before

You sit back some more

Stay quiet

Listen to the people around

Hoping you go invisible

That would make things better

You scream for help in your own way

Not knowing how to help yourself

988 doesn’t want to help

You have to be suicidal just enough

If you self harm, that doesn’t count

On goes the mask

Learn to meld with it

Needing to be one

Once I become one

Maybe I’ll feel better
